Huddersfield is a vibrant market town that is set within the south Pennine Hills and is the main residential settlement within the Kirklees borough. Made up of over 100 quaint villages/hamlets spread across 780 urban and rural square miles, it is a popular location to reside due to its excellent public transportation links to Manchester, Leeds and London, alongside being situated on the M62 motorway corridor.
Steeped in history throughout and complemented by naturally beautiful rolling hills, the town has a high density of Listed buildings in its centre, all of which are marvels of magnificent architecture. In particular, the architecturally designed Grade I listed train station that dates to the mid 1800's and is located in St Georges Square in the heart of the town, adjacent to a statue of former Prime Minister Harold Wilson, making it a popular place to visit. Other attractions include the Emley Moor mast, which is one of Britain's tallest freestanding towers, measuring around 328 metres and forms part of the distant landscape in various parts of West Yorkshire. Further to this, Castle Hill is an ancient monument that overlooks Huddersfield from the village of Almondbury, surrounded by rural walks, making it a popular attraction for dog walkers, young families or historical enthusiasts.
The award winning Huddersfield University was founded in 1992 and has recently undergone a programme of modernisation to attract students far and wide to its excellent facilities. Complemented by three central colleges; Huddersfield New College, Greenhead College and Kirklees College, Huddersfield has made a name for itself as a sought-after area for families to bring up their children.
The town is also home to Championship football club Huddersfield Town and Giants Rugby League Club. Huddersfield has been the setting of many TV programmes including 'Last Of The Summer Wine' sitcom was set in Holmfirth, around 6 miles from the Town Centre and 'Where the heart is' set in the Colne Valley villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden. Still to this day, this history brings a wealth of tourism into the area where they can sample independent, local shops, bars and restaurants.
With each of the villages within the Huddersfield area having their own unique characteristics, from the hustle and bustle in the centre of Slaithwaite to the rural Marsden Moors, it is no wonder why the town is an excellent location for professionals, families and students.
